Botox Q & A

What does Botox treat?

Botox targets one of the underlying causes of wrinkles: Muscle contractions. The purified botulinum strain in Botox interacts with cell signaling that leads to muscle contractions. Even though you can still make your usual facial expressions after getting Botox, the injections allow your muscles to relax, so your skin smooths out.

Botox has been heavily tested and proven to be effective for treating a wide variety of age-related lines and wrinkles. A single Botox session involves injecting multiple areas of a targeted muscle to minimize the appearance of:

  • Crow’s feet near your eyes
  • Frown lines between your brows
  • Forehead lines and wrinkles

The entire Botox treatment takes just about 10 minutes, so you can easily reverse the signs of aging, without taking up too much of your time.

How long does it take for Botox to work?

Botox is incredibly fast-acting, with most men and women noticing visible results right after their treatment at Lustre Med Spa. It’s normal to have minor redness or slight swelling after Botox, and it can take up to 48 hours for you to truly experience optimal results. Even during this time, though, you can return to your normal activities — no downtime needed.

Does it hurt to get Botox?

You might feel some stinging, but you shouldn’t be in pain during your Botox injection service. It’s generally the initial slight prick of the thin Botox needle that sometimes causes the slight sting. To help you relax and feel comfortable during your visit at Lustre Med Spa, Frances often recommends applying topical over-the-counter numbing cream or even an ice pack to your treatment area, about 20-30 minutes beforehand.

Are Botox injections permanent?

No, although Botox injections are very long-lasting. Frances finds that it’s common to experience optimal results for up to four months after your treatment. Your smoother skin might last even longer if you only have fine lines.

To further enhance your Botox injectable service at Lustre Med Spa, Frances sometimes recommends pairing dermal fillers with Botox. Dermal fillers replace lost volume and contour your face, which further enhances your natural beauty.
